Information on Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2)
On this page, the management of the German Sport University Cologne informs about current measures and notices in connection with the coronavirus.
Employees of the University of Sports will find specific information and documents on the intranet (only in German).
Our News Ticker will inform you about current developments!
+++ 02.06.2022: Mask obligation cancelled +++
As of now, the mask requirement on campus and in the Spoho buildings has been lifted, but it is still strongly recommended to continue wearing a medical mask. All further information can be found in our current campus hygiene concept.
+++ 12.05.2022: No more 3G verification in courses +++
By decision of the Presidents Office there will be no more 3G verification in courses at GSU with immediate effect. Nevertheless, we ask all persons attending lectures or courses who are not fully vaccinated to check regularly by means of self-testing or citizen testing.
+++ 29.03.2022: Implementation concept for face-to-face teaching updated +++
The German Sport University Cologne continues to regard the implementation of face-to-face teaching as a high asset and generally supports all measures that enable the implementation of face-to-face teaching. Information on the new regulations can be found in the new implementation concept for face-to-face teaching (please see the box "Important documents for download" below).
+++ 04.03.2022: Organization of the 2022 summer semester +++
On the basis of the available information and analogous to the other universities in NRW, the German Sport University Cologne is planning an attendance semester in the summer semester 2022. At the current stage of planning, this also includes lectures. Therefore, the university management asks all teachers and students to be prepared for this and to plan their studies accordingly. The university management assumes that the situation will continue to improve noticeably in the coming weeks and that the very high vaccination rate at the DSHS will be maintained, even with necessary booster vaccinations. With regard to the large lectures (Basisstudium), however, the university management reserves the right to switch to online formats at short notice if the currently favorable forecast does not occur.
+++ 04.02.2022: Covid-positive reports +++
During the upcoming lecture-free period, you do not need to officially report to GSU in case of a Covid illness. If you are in attendance at a course during this time (e.g. excursions or compact courses), it is sufficient to inform the respective teacher.
+++ 28.01.2022: Vaccination offer at the ambulance +++
During the period of 03.02.22 - 11.02.22 students may be vaccinated in the ambulance of the GSU. First, second and booster vaccinations are available. Vaccine supply is BioNTech. Supplies are limited, so it is first come first serve. Please contact us by email at email@example.com to schedule an appointment. Please be sure to provide phone contact information so the ambulance can contact you to schedule appointments.
+++ 12.01.2022: Booster and "vaccination breakthrough" now replacement for test proof (2G+) +++
From Thursday, 13.01.2022 a new Corona protection regulation NRW is valid. This stipulates that in the case of 2G+, there is no longer an additional testing obligation if persons
1. have an effective booster vaccination ("Booster") or
2. after complete immunization within the last three months can prove an infection by means of a PCR test (e.g. by PCR test proof or "convalescent proof") - so-called vaccination breakthrough.
In order to simplify the controls, in the case of 2. we ask for the creation of a certificate of recovery in your Corona app.
+++ 10.01.2022: Tutorials and Free Practice +++
The tutorials in WiSe 2021/22 as well as the free practicing are still possible. Again, the 2G+ rule applies in halls (i.e. immunized/genetically screened plus 24h old citizen test) and the 2G rule applies in outdoor areas (e.g. athletics facility). The presence of the evidence will be verified. Under current regulations (as of 10/01/2022), booster vaccination does not replace the citizen test. For further information for specific sports, students can contact the subject tutors (Athletics: Moodle course "Fachtutorium Leichtathletik" or Fr. Dr. Schapschröer; Swimming: Mr. Dr. Bieder; Gymnastics: Mr. Dr. Rohleder).
+++ 07.01.2022: Courses until 04.02.2022 & test regulations +++
The university management informs about the regulations for the remaining four weeks of the lecture period in WiSe 2021/22. In the Master's programs, all remaining courses will be held as online classes from 10.01. to 04.02.2022. Exceptions are possible. In the Bachelor's and teacher training programs, seminar courses will be conducted as online classes from 10.01. to 04.02.2022. Justified exceptions are possible. Sports practical courses and teaching practical exercises will take place from 10.01. to 21.01.2022 in presence, afterwards online. Information about excursions will follow.
For sports practical teaching events indoors (sports halls, swimming center etc.) the 2G+ rule applies, i.e. fully vaccinated or recovered plus a negative max. 24h old citizen test). For outdoor sports practice events, 2G applies. Non-vaccinated individuals may continue to participate on a transitional basis with a negative max 48h old PCR test.
All details and info can be found by students and teachers in the Prorector's Info PDFs in Moodle as of 07/01/2022.
+++ 13.12.2021: Validity period of proofs +++
While a proof of convalescence (beginning 28 days after positive PCR test) loses its validity after 6 months (after PCR test), proofs of vaccination do not have an "expiry period" so far. Vaccination protection begins 14 days after the last vaccination.
+++ 13.12.2021: Free shot for exams in WiSe 2021/22 +++
All exams of the winter semester 2021/22 will take place without attempt restriction. This means that, as in the past two semesters, the exam attempt will again not count towards the number of limited attempts. This applies to all examinations with the exception of final theses in the teaching program.
+++ 9.12.2021: Addition to the masking requirement +++
A recent amendment to the Corona Protection Ordinance in NRW obliges the wearing of a medical mask in all indoor rooms to which visitors and students have access, unless the distance of 1.5 meters is maintained. Non-immunized persons must now always wear a medical mask in such rooms. The implementation concept for teaching and the specific information for face-to-face teaching continue to apply to face-to-face teaching (see intranet).
In addition, the 3G rule applies to all employees in the university buildings: employees must be vaccinated, recovered or tested upon entering the university buildings and carry appropriate proof.
+++ 30.11.2021: 2G in sports practice +++
The university administration informs that the 2G rule applies to sports practical courses with immediate effect. If students have any questions, please contact the respective instructor. In general, the representatives of the universities are currently in discussion with the Ministry about how the regulations at the universities could look in the future. We will inform you on this page if and how the situation will change.
+++ 22/11/2021: Validity of test proofs +++
The university management would like to point out that the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia has tightened the Corona Protection Ordinance (Coronaschutzverordnung NRW) to the effect that test certificates (both rapid antigen tests and PCR tests) are now only valid for 24 hours and no longer - as was previously the case - for 48 hours (§ 2 para. 8 Coronaschutzverordnung NRW). For the presence events of the German Sport University Cologne this means that from now on not completely vaccinated or recovered students have to bring a test proof which is not older than 24 hours. Students with an older test certificate will not be allowed to attend the events.
+++ 06/10/2021: Access regulations on campus in winter term 2021/22 +++
Students may only enter the halls, lecture halls, seminar rooms, and swimming center of the German Sport University Cologne and remain there for the purpose of independent study in designated areas if they have been vaccinated, recovered, or tested with respect to the SARS-CoV-2 corona virus. Tested students are those who have a negative result, certified in accordance with the Corona Test and Quarantine Ordinance, from a rapid antigen test or PCR test performed no more than 48 hours previously.

In principle, the university management of the German Sport University Cologne continues to regard the implementation of teaching in presence as a high asset and has declared itself in favor of conducting the upcoming winter semester 2021/22 in presence as far as possible. To this end, a concept was developed based on the 3G rule. In order to guarantee a safe semester for all university members, the Sports University is taking preventive measures. These include the obligation to wear a medical mouth-nose protection on all traffic routes (entrance halls, corridors, staircases, sanitary facilities, changing rooms and washrooms) and in public spaces in the buildings as well as when entering buildings until reaching the workplace or the destination.
The lecture period in the winter semester 2021/22 begins on October 11, 2021 and ends on February 4, 2022.
