The management urges you to take a sensible approach to the current situation and to exercise sobriety when addressing the topic and dealing with each others. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) estimates the health risks for the population in Germany to be high according to the information currently available.
In its assessment and recommendations, the German Sport University follows the publications of the RKI, exchanges information with the Health Department of the City of Cologne and continuously assesses the spread of the coronavirus.
Summer semester 2020: According to a decision of the Ministry, the start of the next summer semester will be postponed to 20.4.2020. The end of the lecture period of the summer semester 2020 is set to 17 July 2020.
Examinations in the current examination period: Please note that, after careful consideration, we have decided to postpone all future examinations in the current examination period. This means that all examinations from and including 16.3.2020 will be cancelled. The German Sport University will make every effort to ensure that cancelled exams can take place at a later date of the semester. The German Sport University will also make every effort to ensure that you do not suffer any disadvantages as a result of this postponement. For example, if passing an affected exam is a condition for course selection in the summer semester ("prerequisite"), this prerequisite will be cancelled for the summer semester.
Please keep up to date on this page.
Members of the university will also be informed by the university.
At present, there are different regions in which there is an accumulation of infections. A list of risk regions, which is constantly updated by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), can be found here (German language).
The German Federal Foreign Office has issued a warning against travelling to Hubei Province and advises not to travel to the other risk regions (unchanged since 28 February 2020, 9:00 a.m.). The current travel and safety instructions of the German Federal Foreign Office can be found here (German language).
Central Library of Sport Science at GSU
The library will be closed until 20th of April. In urgent cases an autonomous self-checkout for material is possible.
The German Sport University is taking preventive measures to prevent the further spread of infections.
Generally speaking, in the case of acutely infectious diseases, it is not allowed to enter the German Sport University (grounds and buildings).
All persons suspected of having contracted COVID-19 are requested to consult a doctor after having made an appointment via phone. In doing so, they should point out that they have returned from a risk area or that they may have had (possible) contact with sick persons.
In addition, the German Sport University is taking the following measures:
Persons (employees, students, guest researchers and other guests such as relatives or craftsmen of external companies) who are infected with the coronavirus are not allowed to enter the area of the German Sport University (grounds and buildings) until it has been proven that the disease has healed or is no longer contagious. They are prohibited from entering the premises as a preventive measure for third parties.
Persons who have entered from one of the risk regionsare not allowed to enter the German Sport University - regardless of whether they show symptoms - for 14 days after their return. These persons are also prohibited from entering the premises of the German Sport University (grounds and buildings). The German Sport University recommends that these returnees should be self-isolated for two weeks.
Persons who have been or are still in contact with persons suffering from the virus, e.g. because they have been in face-to-face contact for ≥15 minutes, are also prohibited from entering the premises of the German Sport University (grounds and buildings) for the duration of the contact and for 14 days beyond that. All further measures are coordinated by the public health department.
In addition, the regulations for daily work and study operations will be adapted:
- The management of the German Sport University will not authorise any business trips to the risk regions until further notice. The right of supervisors/ directors in the university’s departments/ institutes/ units to authorise trips to these regions is hereby suspended as long as
- the German Federal Foreign Office of Germany has issued a travel warning for them due to the coronavirus, or
- the RKI has declared the destination a risk area.
The same applies to excursions, etc. to the risk regions concerned. In addition, travel authorisations already granted are hereby revoked, initially until the end of April 2020.
- Trips to other areas are still possible – under consideration of the usual risk assessment. For information on whether safety precautions should be taken or travel to certain countries is not recommended, see theWebsite of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. Should a region be declared a risk region during a business trip or private holiday, the conditions regarding quarantine (as described under point II) apply. The GSU currently recommends staff to refrain from business trips.
Work at home: Due to the current extraordinary situation and in order to maintain the ability to work at the German Sport University Cologne while at the same time ensuring the highest possible level of health protection for the employees, managers are now able to enable employees to work at home in all areas of responsibility that are suitable for working from home. This regulation is initially valid up to and including April 17, 2020, and must be reported to Department 2 by the respective manager (vice rector, heads of institutes, department heads, heads of departments) (which regulation was agreed with the employees). A notification by e-mail is sufficient in this situation. Employees in the technical and administrative departments are credited with their individual planned working time for the days displayed. Celebration of overtime, flex days or vacation days should be made possible in a flexible manner.
