The management of the German Sport University Cologne asks for level-headedness in dealing with the current situation as well as a prudent and non-discriminatory approach to the topic and among each other. According to the information available today, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) estimates the risk to the health of the population in Germany to be high, and very high for risk groups.
In its assessment and recommendations, the Sports University follows the publications of the RKI, exchanges information with the Health Department of the City of Cologne and continuously assesses the spread of the corona virus.
Summer semester 2020: According to a decision of the Ministry, the start of the digital summer semester has been postponed to 20.4.2020. The end of the lecture period of the summer semester 2020 is set for July 17, 2020.
Examinations in the examination period starting on 16 March 2020: After careful consideration of the risks, all examinations in the current examination period have been postponed. In the meantime, the Rectorate of the German Sport University Cologne has approved a concept for the making up of these examinations from March 2020. This affects all students who were registered for these examinations (even if they subsequently cancelled their registration). The examinations will take place from 8 June 2020. Further information can be found under "Application, Studies, Teaching & Exams", FAQ 3.4.
Further up-to-date information on examination matters can be found here (under 3.)
Risk regions and return from abroad
Since 10 April 2020, the Robert Koch Institute has no longer identified any international risk areas or particularly affected areas in Germany. COVID-19 is now in use worldwide. Outbreaks have occurred in a considerable number of countries, some of them with large case numbers; the exact case numbers of other countries are not known. There is therefore a risk of transmission both in Germany and in a vast number of regions worldwide. The Federal Foreign Office's worldwide travel warning is currently valid until 15 June 2020.
According to the Ordinance on Protection against New Infections with the Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 with regard to Entry and Return Travel of 09.04.2020, persons who had previously spent more than 72 hours abroad were obliged to go directly to their own home immediately after entry and not to leave this place of residence for a period of 14 days after entering the Federal Republic of Germany, not to receive visits from persons not belonging to the household of the place of residence and to inform the Health Office immediately. This quarantine obligation was lifted for NRW on 15 May 2020.
Further information can be found here.
Travel and safety information from the AA can be found here.
Central Library of Sport Science at GSU
The library will be closed until 20th of April. In urgent cases an autonomous self-checkout for material is possible.
The German Sport University is taking preventive measures to prevent the further spread of infections.
Generally speaking, in the case of acutely infectious diseases, it is not allowed to enter the German Sport University (grounds and buildings).
All persons suspected of having contracted COVID-19 are requested to consult a doctor after having made an appointment via phone. They should point out the (possible) contact with sick persons.
In addition, the German Sport University is taking the following measures:
Persons (employees, students, guest researchers and other guests such as relatives or craftsmen of external companies) who are infected with the coronavirus are not allowed to enter the area of the German Sport University (grounds and buildings) until it has been proven that the disease has healed or is no longer contagious. They are prohibited from entering the premises as a preventive measure for third parties.
Persons who have been or are still in contact with persons suffering from the virus, e.g. because they have been in face-to-face contact for ≥15 minutes, are also prohibited from entering the premises of the German Sport University (grounds and buildings) for the duration of the contact and for 14 days beyond that. All further measures are coordinated by the public health department.
In addition, the regulations for daily work and study operations will be adapted:
- Business trips
The corona-related restrictions decided by the President´s Office with regard to business trips were only valid until 31.05.2020. The President´s Office therefore decides that from 01.06.2020, business trips are in principle possible again, subject to compliance with and observance of the known hygiene and distance rules and the country-specific regulations. The travel warnings of the Federal Foreign Office and the RKI and the regulations of the responsible authorities (including the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Health) must be observed.
- Home Office
As of 08.06.2020, the university-wide regulations on home office, which were specified by the President´s Office, will be terminated. At this time, the University of Sport will also start to offer attendance events in many teaching areas that are dependent on a special infrastructure.
In our previous information letters, we have already asked the persons responsible for personnel to work out internal regulations for the termination of home office and to consider solutions such as presence shift services or the use of the additionally furnished study rooms in the guest house. The focus of all regulations should be on the functionality of the respective unit, taking into account the health protection for employees in accordance with the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute or in the SARS-CoV-2 occupational safety standard of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
We request that the solutions worked out be implemented in the institutes/departments, departments and staff units from 8 June 2020 onwards and would like to expressly point out that the persons responsible for personnel can continue to enable employees to have a home office in accordance with CoronaSchVO §4 Para. 2 and should also use this possibility to an appropriate extent. This seems, for example, particularly appropriate,
- if parents continue to have problems in caring for their children,
- membership of a risk group represents an understandable health risk or
- members of a risk group living in the household are exposed to an unjustifiable risk of infection
