This should help you to identify suitable contacts for your cooperation interest and for your scientific host or mentors.

In case you need further assistance in identifying researchers in your field of interest, feel free to get in touch with our research support staff at the research and young academics department.

Especially if you are currently based outside of Germany, we have collected a variety of funding programmes. These range from fundings and programmes for PhD students, postdocs and senior researchers. If you have any questions concerning the funding programmes and application procedure the team of research and young academics department is also happy to support you.

NRW-Rückkehrerprogramm 2020

MKW – Programm zur Förderung der Rückkehr des hoch qualifizierten Forschungsnachwuchses aus dem Ausland // NRW-Rückkehrerprogramm 2020: Medizinrelevante Forschung

Das NRW-Rückkehrprogramm bietet Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen die Chance zum Aufbau sowie zur Leitung einer selbstständigen Nachwuchsgruppe an einer Hochschule in NRW. Diese erhalten eine personengebundene Finanzierungszusage in Höhe von bis zu 1,25 Mio. Euro für einen Zeitraum von fünf Jahren. Insgesamt können sechs Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen gefördert werden. Antragsberechtigt sind Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen, die außerhalb Deutschlands forschen und über eine Promotion verfügen, die zum Bewerbungsschluss mindestens zwei und höchstens sechs (Medizin: neun) Jahre zurückliegt. Der Lebensmittelpunkt muss vor dem Auslandsaufenthalts in Deutschland gelegen haben und es müssen mindestens 12 Monate erfolgreicher wissenschaftlicher Forschung außerhalb Deutschlands vorgewiesen werden, die zum Zeitpunkt der Förderzusage im Sommer 2021 andauert. Die deutsche Staatsangehörigkeit ist nicht erforderlich. Grundsätzlich richtet sich die Ausschreibung an Forschende aller Fachgebiete, bei deren bisheriger und für die Zukunft geplanter Arbeit ein unmittelbarer und klar erkennbarer Bezug zur Medizinrelevanten Forschung gegeben ist.

Junior PostDocs

Research funds of the German Sport University

Call for proposals for initial funding for young PostDocs (Call No.3)

Target group: Young scientists in the final phase of their PhD and Postdocs up to 24 months after finishing their PhD (date of certificate; times of parental or care leave will be taken into account according to the WissZeitVG) are eligible to apply.

Aim: The grant is designed to support the preparation of an application to a competitive third-party funding organization (e.g.DFG, EU, BMBF, BISp, foundations). It aims to give young scientists the possibility and resources to prepare a proposal and to improve their proposal writing skills. Innovative research ideas with relevance for basic and/or applied sciences in the field of sport sciences should be integrated in an application concept, which will be submitted to a funding organization with a competitive peer-review process. If the grant is awarded, the research project should be carried out at the German Sport University Cologne. Due to the current efforts of the DSHS to attract more third-party funding from the DFG, this funding line is intended to encourage young researchers in particular to submit applications to the DFG. The various funding programs of the DFG should be considered.

Duration: 1 year.

Amount: For the preparation of a third-party funding applicationyoung scientists can apply for their own researcher position (up to 50% principle investigator position(WMA)) for up to 12 months.

Research funds of the German Sport University

Call for proposals for postdoctoral research funding (Call No. 4)

Target group: Postdocs of the German Sport University and external national or international Postdocs up to 6 years after completion of their PhD (parental leave is credited), aiming a career in science, are eligible to apply.

Aim:  With this call young scientists should be supported in their postdoctoral period.They should be given the possibility to focus on their research profile,to expand their scientific independence and to initiate international cooperations. Excellent young scientists shall be given a career opportunity by funding their own major research project (or subproject) at the German Sport University. Therefore, the German Sport University Cologne promotes innovative research ideas with relevance for basic and/or applied sciences in the field of sport science

Duration: Up to 24 months.

Amount: In this call, up to 70.000 € for a period up to 24 months can be applied. The grant can be spent on financing of the researcher ́s own position (up to 50% principle investigator position (WMA)), personnel costs (SHK/WHB/WHK/WMA) or equipment and travel expenses (e.g. for congresses or for the initiation of an international cooperation). Precondition for funding is a contribution of the Institute/Departmentof at least 25% of the total project costs.
