Interest - First Steps

The PhD process includes several steps, from the first idea, through formal registration, up to the final PhD certificate (see PhD process overview as a visualisation). The first step towards a Ph.D. is the selection of a research field and a supervisor. Hereby the Ph.D. candidate must autonomously identify a suitable professor as a supervisor. Only on acceptance of the supervisor can the next steps be taken. More information about the professors and the different institutes can be found here.

On the GSU´s research portal you can find a list of the respective researchers and further information on their work. The potential supervisor may be contacted directly, including a CV and an exposé.

A Ph.D. at the German Sport University can also be financed via our internal Research funds or via external Ph.D. stipends. Further possibilities can be found here.

Please note that all doctoral students (independent of the specialisation or employment status such as internal vs external) must complete our PhD study programme, which includes several courses with mandatory attendance on campus. Only few courses are offered online. See also information on our website "Doctoral studies and doctoral study programme".
