1st prize in the Teaching Award 2020 - congratulations!

We congratulate our institute staff member Louis Moustakas for the 1st place at this year's teaching award ceremony for his seminar in the master course DEV8 "Sport for Development - Examples Around the World"! We are proud and very happy that our course was honoured for outstanding.

The Seminar, which is part of the overall DEV8 – Sport for Development Module, serves to provide students with concrete, real-world examples of sport for development approaches and projects from around the Globe.

Beyond providing mere examples, the goal of this Seminar was to connect these examples with scientific concepts and practical input so that students can obtain the knowledge, resources and tools to critically and reflectively discuss these examples, while also understanding how they connect to the broader system of International Development. This means that the seminar not only focused on practical Sport for Development examples, but also discussed issues related to funding, power structures or human resources.

Such global understanding and critical thinking skills are of utmost importance for future leaders in the field of sport for development, as they help foster creative thinking and innovative solutions to the problems facing the field.

To achieve this, a student-centred learning approach was at the heart of this seminar. This approach promotes learning in communication with the teacher and other learners, and takes students seriously as active participants in their own learning. Based on a constructivist paradigm, student-centred learning focuses on skills that enable lifelong learning and independent problem-solving. Students gain knowledge and construct meaning from the class content through a combination new information and prior experiences. Ultimately, this helps foster important, transferable skills such as reflection and critical thinking.
