Erasmus+ Take it to the Street Workshop

Two students, Julian Egeland and Fares Soufan from the MA „International Sport Development and Politics Programme”, were delegated on behalf of the Institute of European Sport Development and Leisure Studies to participate in the validation workshop of 3X3 Basketball.

The workshop took place from the 2nd-4th of November 2018 in the so-called "Street Mekka", a multifunctional sports facility, in Aalborg/Denmark. The facility is described as an open centre for the youth, an alternative for the classic sports clubs and it organizes various activities for children and young people in return for a nominal membership fee. During the workshop multiple concepts and methods were discussed for using 3X3 basketball as a discipline with regards to the approach “Sport for Development”. The participants coming from Denmark, Germany, Lebanon, Netherlands and Palestine were able to share their experiences and raise discussion points about the dimensions of 3X3 basketball and possible applications in the respective countries.

The workshop was part of the Erasmus+ “Take it to the Street” project, which is implemented in cooperation with international partner organizations (International Sport Alliance/Netherlands, Game Denmark, Game Lebanon and 3X3 Unites/Netherlands) and which aims to spread the use of street sports, in particular 3X3 basketball, as a tool for personal, social and community development.
