SOPROS Final Conference, 9 December 2025, European Parliament Offices

We are pleased to announce the Final Conference of the SOPROS project, which will take place on 9 December 2025 in Brussels, at the European Parliament Offices (Room SPINELLI 5G315), from 3:45 to 6:00 PM.

The event will be held under the title: “Athletes’ Social Protection in Europe: Improving the Status Quo through European Policies and Social Dialogue?” and will mark the conclusion of the SOPROS project.

Over the past three years, the SOPROS project has analysed and compared the state of social protection for elite athletes in five European countries - examining issues such as employment status, access to healthcare, pension systems, and collective representation. The Final Conference will bring together representatives of sport organisations, public institutions, academia, and civil society to discuss the next steps toward better coordination and more effective protection for athletes - both during and after their sporting careers. The event will feature two panel discussions addressing key questions:

  • What role does athletes’ social protection play in the future European Sport Model?
  • How can new forms of social dialogue contribute to improving athletes’ protection across Europe?

The conference will also present specific recommendations for legal and policy reforms developed within the project, as well as proposals for practical actions and cooperation frameworks supporting the implementation of athletes’ social protection. Approximately 30 participants are expected to attend in person, along with an online audience including decision-makers and experts from across Europe.
