Special interest weeks with Engagement Global in November 2019

Theme weeks: Sports. Global. Sustainable. Reducing inequality within and between countries

Sport promotes tolerance and respect, strengthens individual self-determination and community cohesion. It thus makes an important contribution to sustainable development in the sense of Agenda 2030. With the 17 goals for sustainable development, the member states of the United Nations committed themselves in 2015 to leave no one behind in their fight against poverty, discrimination and environmental pollution. However, global climate change, political crises and technological developments run the risk of exacerbating existing inequalities within and between countries.

According to this, the Institute for European Sport Development and Leisure Research and the programme "Development Education in Germany" (EMCDDA) of Engagement Global are once again organising joint special interest weeks in November 2019.

This yerar's focus of "Sport. Global. Sustainable" will in particular be on objective number 10 - "Reducing inequality within and between countries". Seminars of different instiutes, workshops and a panel discussion, students and other interested parties, together with experts, will examine the question of what contribution sport can make in reducing inequalities.
