Science Slam World Cup 2018

During the year of the FIFA World Cup Germany’s only sport university is organizing the Science Slam World Cup 2018 and by this is implementing its successful concept as awarded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

International young researchers will present their research and compete against each other in November 2018 as part of the Science Slam World Cup at the German Sport University Cologne. We are looking for PhD students and postdocs from all five continents and from all scientific areas that have a link to sport and exercise sciences.

The application process has already started: Starting immediately, interested young researchers can apply with a two minute video in English that represents their research topic and its link to sport and exercise sciences in a creative and entertaining way. After the judgments of a jury three selected applicants from each continent will receive an invitation to the Science Slam World Cup from November 19th to 24th 2018 in Cologne; the German Sport University Cologne will take over travel costs and accommodation.

The Science Slam World Cup will be held in November with pre-rounds and the big final, integrated into a scientific program with symposia and lab tours as well as sport and cultural activities. Under the motto “Excite the public with your research” selected young researchers from all over the world will present their research in 10 to 15 minute Science Slam performances.

The project is part of the internationalization strategy of the German Sport University Cologne. The Science Slam World Cup offers the possibility of connecting international researchers and scientists to those of the German Sport University. Besides personal meetings with guests from all over the world, further possibilities will be offered to develop or refine new research ideas. Specifically international contacts and research cooperation to parent disciplines (neurosciences, medicine, psychology, economy, pedagogy et al.) that link to many fields of sport and exercise sciences should be further established.

The project is part of the campaign „Research in Germany“ by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
