Science Slam World Cup

2018 is the year of the soccer World Cup. According to the soccer tournament, the Science Slam World Cup is an international competition for young researchers from all continents to present their own research in a brief and lively science slam format.

From 19th to 24th November 2018 the Science Slam World Cup takes place at the German Sport University Cologne. 15 young researchers from five continents are invited to the German Sport University Cologne to show and explain their own research topic to an audience.

Excite the public with your research!

A science slam is a talk where researchers present their science in a given time frame - usually 10-15 minutes - in front of a non-expert audience, similar to TEDx talks. The focus lies on translating current science to a diverse audience in an entertaining way. Various presentation media are allowed, e.g. power point presentations, live-experiments or other requisites. The presentation is then judged by the audience.

Who can participate?

International young researchers (PhD students and Postdocs) from all disciplines with a topic connected to Sport and Exercise Science. Applicants should have a current staff position or be enrolled in a PhD program within the relevant region. The German Sport University Cologne will cover the costs of travel and accomodation of the best three applications of each continent!

In order to apply for the participation and funding, please send us a two minute video in English in which you explain your own research topic in a creative and entertaining way to non-experts. Then add a CV - and that's it!
