Biosignals Night - Decoding your Body
The Night of Biosignals is an event that takes place regularly in various cities and is dedicated to exploring biomedical topics. On November 7, 2025, the event will be held in Cologne at the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne. The German Sport University Cologne will also be represented there with a lecture by Spoho scientist Dr. Vera Abeln, Institute for Movement and Neuroscience. Her topic: The moving brain – What can we learn from EEG in exercise settings?
Physical activity/exercise is a well-known multifunctional tool in terms of physical, cognitive, and mental health. However, how our brain is affected by exercise is not yet fully understood. The lecture will present the advantages and disadvantages, perspectives, and limitations of imaging techniques for examining the brain under training conditions. Insights into past and ongoing research studies at the German Sport University Cologne will be provided to demonstrate examples of EEG data processing and various methods of EEG analysis. A short practical section is planned to illustrate the applicability and findings of EEG studies under training conditions.
When: Friday, November 7, 2025, 6 to 10 p.m.
Where: University of Cologne, TRIO Translational Research for Infectious Diseases and Oncology, Robert-Koch-Straße 21, Seminar Rooms 3 & 4
How: The lectures will be held in English; food and drinks will be provided; admission is free.
Further information on Dr. Vera Abeln's lecture and other events can be found on the Night of Biosignals website.
This series of events is organized by the Biosignals Technical Committee of the Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (VDE). The Night of Biosignals is aimed at citizens, students, and schoolchildren who are interested in innovations in medical technology research.
