International Research Summer School

The German Sport University Cologne (GSU) is organizing an International Research Summer School on "Research Methods in Sports Science for Interdisciplinary Approaches" from August 20 to 26, 2023. The Summer School is aimed at Master students, PhD students as well as post-docs in an early phase after their PhD. The working language of the Summer School will be English.

In the plenary session, scientists from the German Sport University Cologne will give lectures introducing central research methods and discuss their possible applications for interdisciplinary approaches; in smaller groups, the participants will then have the opportunity to put theory into practice in several workshops and make it fruitful for the development of their own research questions. In addition, an evening program will provide space for sporting events, evening lectures and socializing. A festive closing event will round off the program.

Half of the participants will come from the German Sport University Cologne itself and the other half from the international community. As last year, the participation fees will range between 100 and 200 euros:

  • € 200,- for post-docs,
  • € 150,- for master and doctoral students.

For participants* from GSU and its partner institutions:

  • € 150,- for post-docs,
  • € 100,- for Master and PhD students.

For the international guests, the guest house at the Hockey-Judo Center offers affordable accommodation. The stay will cover the entire period of the Summer School (20.08.-26.08.2023). The total accommodation costs are expected to be € 200,- (including breakfast).

Participants will have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship at the same time as they register, which, in addition to waiving the participation fee and accommodation costs, will again include a contribution to travel costs.
