The Social Impact of Sports Communication

In November 2025, everything will revolve around the social implications of sports communication. The ECREA working group ‘Communication and Sport’ is holding a conference from 13 to 15 November 2025, organised by the Institute for Communication and Media Research (IKM) at the German Sport University Cologne.

After a get-together on 13 November, the scientific programme is planned for 14 and 15 November 2025 on campus. The conference of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) invites academics from various countries to submit abstracts in English by 23 June 2025.

We are looking for contributions that examine the connections between digital forms of sports communication and their influence on social discourse. The aim is to promote interdisciplinary dialogue. The aim is to better understand how journalism, social media platforms, strategic communication, (empirically ascertainable) audiences, social engagement, activism and advocacy are linked in sports communication and what social influence they exert.

You will soon find all important information on the conference homepage. The organising team is led by Junior Professor Dr Daniel Nölleke. He has been Junior Professor of Sports Journalism and Public Relations at the German Sport University Cologne since April 2022.
