Since its inception, tourism has been accompanied, reflected, driven and constructed by the media. In the interplay between tourism and media representation, the travel guide is of particular importance, as it has accompanied tourist practices as the oldest tourist medium since the bourgeoisie. This study examines the genesis of the alternative travel guide, which emerged in the 1970s in the left-wing alternative milieu, as a component of the history of tourism and its media after 1945. The analysis focuses on the construction of an alternative tourist travel practice through alternative media formats, visualizations, and narratives, changes in the medium of the travel guide itself, and interactions between tourism development and media reflection.
