Application Period for the 2025/26 Cycle Closed

The application period for the 2025/26 cycle has ended. The next application period is expected to take place in July/August 2026.

Before applying, please ensure that you meet the general eligibility requirements for the Germany Scholarship. The funding criteria and the guidelines of the German Sport University Cologne can be found here. The guidelines also clearly define the criteria for specific groups, such as competitive athletes.

Required Documents (PDF format):

  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form (maximum two pages; to be uploaded as a PDF file in the online application under “attachments”)*
  • Letter of motivation, including an explanation of career goals, voluntary work, intended use of the scholarship funds, name, and address (maximum two pages; to be uploaded as a PDF file in the online application under “attachments”)*
  • Proof of social/voluntary engagement*
  • Certificate of enrollment for the winter semester 2026/27 (prospective students are asked to submit this once available)*
  • Current grade point average (requirement: GPA of 2.0 or better). Important: A GPA is mandatory for all applications. Students are responsible for ensuring that the necessary grades are entered in time so that an average can be calculated. First-year students or those in the early stages of their studies, who do not yet have sufficient grades, should apply using their most recent final grade (e.g., high school diploma, bachelor’s degree). International students must submit a GPA converted to the German grading system.*
  • If applicable: proof of university entrance qualification
  • If applicable: training certificate/diploma
  • If applicable: proof of employment (employment reference; not part-time jobs)
  • For teacher education students: transcript of records and calculated GPA from the University of Cologne or Siegen (if not evident from the German Sport University Cologne transcript)
  • If applicable: current proof of membership in a national squad or team (for competitive athletes)
  • If applicable: proof of sporting achievements (for competitive athletes)
  • If applicable: copy of child(ren)’s birth certificate(s), proof of family obligations, work in a family business, or care responsibilities for relatives
  • If applicable: proof of disability or chronic illness (disability ID or medical certificate)
  • If applicable: proof of migration background if German is a foreign language (birth certificate)
  • If applicable: confirmation of internships or a voluntary social year
  • If applicable: any other supporting documents that may strengthen the application

* Mandatory documents – applications cannot be considered without these.
