M.Sc. Psychology in Sport and Exercise

Each year you can apply online for the Master Programmes at the German Sport University Cologne for the upcoming winter semester. Please note: no applications will be accepted after the deadline has passed!

Application deadlines

For Non-EU citizens:                         April 25 - May 31

For Germans and EU-citizens:       June 1 - July 15

All applicants have to apply through our online application portal (mySpoho, see link on the right) which is only available during the application period. After registration via the online application portal the documents listed below have to be uploaded to the portal. The legal basis for the Master admission process is outlined in the admissions regulations, see all regulations here).

1. Study diploma and diploma supplement/transcript of records
  • Transcript of records, indicating all courses (including grade) and the number of credit points and/or the number of hours. 
  • Certificate with the average grade of your degree including the respective grading table 
2. Language Skills

For all study degrees that are taught in German applicants require a German language certificate. For a degree which is taught in English all applicants require a valid English language certificate

  • German language
    We only accept DSHII, TestDaF TN4 or Telc C1 "Hochschule" certificates level "good" for the proof of German language no older than two years at the time of the deadline expiry date.
  • English language

    For the Master's Degree courses "Sport Management", "Human Technology in Sports and Medicine", "International Sports Development and Politics" and "Psychology in Sports and Exercise" special knowledge of English must also be provided by one of the following language test certificates: TOEFL iBT (≥ 95 points), IELTS (≥ 7 points) or Cambridge Certificate (CAE) at C1 level in accordance with the European Reference Framework for Languages (GER). You do not have to submit an English language certificate if you completed your Bachelor's degree, which was taught in English language, in an EU-country or in a country where English is an official language.

3. Curriculum vita

For the 'M.Sc. Sport Management', 'M.Sc. Human Technology in Sports and Medicine', 'M.Sc. Psychology in Sport and Exercise' and 'M.A. International Sport Development and Politics'  in English, for all other Master´s degrees in German language 

4. Motivational letter

The motivational letter shall explain your interest for the main subject areas of the Master´s degree, your motives for commencing the studies and your medium-term professional goals (for the 'M.Sc. Sport Management', 'M.Sc. Human Technology in Sports and Medicine', 'M.Sc. Psychology in Sport and Exercise' and 'M.A. International Sport Development and Politics'  in English language)

5. Proof of scientific performance

E.g. participation in research projects, scientific publications, etc. 

6. Proof of work experience

E.g. employment certificates, interim references, internship certificates, work abroad, etc. 

7. Proof of practical sporting experience

E.g. trainer´s certificates  

The certificates and documents mentioned under 1) till 4) are mandatory. The documents 5)- 7) are not mandatory and depend on the individual experience in the respective field.

Officially certified translations are necessary for certificates that are not issued in German or English.
