The Jean Monnet Chair promotes a deeper understanding of the European Union through the Jean Monnet Lectures on Sport Politics. This lecture series brings together distinguished speakers from academia, politics, and the sport sector in Germany and abroad, alongside experts from the German Sport University Cologne, to discuss current issues at the intersection of sport and politics. Topics include sport policy, sport in national and regional contexts, and the opportunities and challenges associated with major sporting events.
The Jean Monnet Lectures on Sport Politics are offered both as guest lectures within existing degree programmes and as a dedicated lecture series held each winter semester. They provide students with valuable insights into current developments, encourage dialogue with leading experts and practitioners, and foster a critical understanding of contemporary issues in sport politics from both academic and practical perspectives.
We warmly invite students, colleagues, and all those interested in sport and politics to attend the lectures and take part in the discussions.
The goal of this module is to teach and help students acquire a basic understanding of the structures and key players in sports policy. Particular attention is given to the international context of sports and the role of sports in development cooperation.
Annual summer schools for Chinese sports scholars: We provide in-depth knowledge of European sports systems, management, and sports development. The program combines theory with practice and offers insights into study opportunities at the German Sport University Cologne.
