Application process at the GSU

There are a number of steps to plan and complete before you can successfully start your degree. Here, we provide information about the application process. We explain both the relevant admissions procedure and the enrolment process.

Application periods

Bachelor and Master degree programmes

Applicants from non-EU countries

25 April to 31 May

Applicants from the European Union (EU)

1 June to 15 July

Application for the Master’s study programmes

Applications for consecutive Master’s programmes (Master of Science and Master of Arts) can generally only be made for the winter semester.

The application period for the 2026/27 winter semester runs from:

  • 1 June 2026 to 15 July 2026 for applicants from Germany and the EU.
  • Applicants from non-European countries (non-EU) from 25 April 2026 to 31 May 2026. Please note the information provided by the International Office.

This is an online application process (with document upload), in which it is not necessary to post application documents.

For external applicants (who did not obtain their bachelor’s degree at GSU)

  1. Register on mySpoho (the application portal of the German Sport University Cologne)
  2. Apply via mySpoho
    • Create an application
    • Upload application documents and supporting evidence
    • Submit your application

For internal applicants (who obtain their bachelor’s degree at GSU)

  1.    Login at mySpoho (No need to re-register!)
    • Create an application
    • Upload application documents and supporting evidence
    • Submit your application

Submission of additional documents

German applicants and applicants from the EU who have not yet received their degree certificate should apply online by 15 July, submitting a current transcript of marks and all other required application documents (as PDF uploads), and should send only the degree certificate or, alternatively, a certificate of completion from the Examinations Office stating the final mark as a PDF file by 31 August (deadline) to masterbewerbung@dshs-koeln.de

Note for Spoho applicants – Provided that your thesis constitutes your final examination in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Sports Science and you successfully submit/upload it to the Examinations Office by 15 June, the university guarantees that you will be able to apply for Master’s places at DSHS Cologne within the deadline. A later submission does not preclude a timely application. However, the final overall mark must be received by masterbewerbung@dshs-koeln.de by 31 August at the latest. Where necessary, students must coordinate the timeline with their examiners in advance.

The TOEFL iBT, IELTS (Academic) or Cambridge CAE language test (all at C1 level) is a prerequisite for admission to the English-taught Master’s programmes at DSHS Cologne. Proof of the test result can be submitted by email by 31 August (deadline) to masterbewerbung@dshs-koeln.de. Non-EU applicants must submit their language test results by 31 May!

In this case, a screenshot of your account showing the result is sufficient for the time being.

NON-EU:

  • For academic qualifications that are not issued in German or English, an officially certified translation (into German or English) of these documents must be uploaded to the relevant upload field, in addition to the original documents. The deadline for uploading is 31 May.
