What can I expect?

The part-time M.A. Olympic Studies provides students with an interdisciplinary understanding of the Olympic Movement and its social, cultural, and political relevance. The programme covers topics such as Olympic history, sport pedagogy, ethics, international relations, media and commercialization, and sport governance – always linked to current developments within the Olympic world.

The programme combines academic depth with an international perspective: lecturers from renowned partner universities in Europe, New Zealand, and South America contribute their expertise from both research and professional practice. All seminars are conducted in English and encourage exchange within an international and diverse student cohort.

Thanks to the combination of on-campus study weeks and independent study phases, the programme can be flexibly combined with professional commitments. In addition to subject-specific knowledge, students further develop analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills while learning to reflect on complex issues of the Olympic Movement from both academic and practical perspectives.

A particular focus is placed on independent academic work and on strengthening the connection between research and the realities of the international sport system. The Master’s thesis concludes the programme and allows students to explore a self-selected topic in Olympic Studies in greater depth.

What happens after graduation?
