The German Sport University Cologne has an outstanding network – in Cologne, across the Rhineland and worldwide. Our partnerships and collaborations form the basis for excellent research in sport science, innovative teaching and the effective transfer of knowledge to sport and society.
Within the national and international academic landscape, we work closely with universities and research institutions. Joint research projects, structured exchange programmes and strategic partnerships strengthen our academic capabilities and promote the international transfer of knowledge.
As Germany’s only university specialising in sport, we have a unique connection with organised sport. Our partnerships range from international and national sports federations to organisations involved in both elite and grassroots sport. Particularly within the context of Cologne as a sporting hub, this creates a closely interlinked network of academia and practice, offering ideal conditions for applied research and the development of young and elite athletes.
In addition, there are a wide range of collaborations with partners from the worlds of business, the media and politics. These help to transfer scientific findings to various sectors of society, provide new impetus for innovation and further develop practice-oriented training and research formats.
Regionally, the German Sport University Cologne is firmly rooted in Cologne’s sports and scientific community and works closely with key players in the region. At the same time, we have an extensive international network and are involved in numerous global partnerships that promote the exchange of knowledge, people and ideas.
Scientific partnerships
Our research is extensively networked and is carried out in close collaboration with national and international partner institutions. It ranges from individual collaborations to larger research consortia. These contribute to strengthening interdisciplinary sport science and promote ongoing exchange in research and knowledge transfer. Partnerships in sport
Key partners in the world of sport – including the Rhineland Olympic Training Centre, 1. FC Köln and the Cologne Sports Authority – are located in the immediate vicinity of the German Sport University Cologne. This creates a closely integrated network of academia and practice, offering ideal conditions for applied research and the development of young and elite athletes. International collaborations with sports federations and organisations extend this network worldwide. They provide access to a variety of sporting systems and frameworks and promote the development and application of scientific findings within an international sporting context.
Partnerships with society
The German Sport University Cologne maintains close links with key players in society. Partnerships with organisations in the fields of education, health, politics, the media and business form an important basis for exchange between academia and practice. They enable the transfer of sports science findings into practical applications within society and help to tackle current challenges in and arising from sport through joint efforts. For example, the German Sport University Cologne is part of the Gateway network for supporting start-ups from universities and the academic sector, and is also involved in the Cologne Science Roundtable.
