Degree Structure and Content

The SBV Bachelor’s degree programme is interdisciplinary in nature and combines practical sports training with scientific foundations. The focus is on developing sound teaching skills specific to particular sports and forms of physical activity within the context of recreational and mass participation sport. You will engage with content from the fields of sports pedagogy, training theory, kinesiology and health promotion. The aim of the programme is to develop evidence-based concepts for promoting physical activity and exercise for different target groups. In addition, you will acquire skills in project management, organisation and evaluation, enabling you to implement exercise programmes professionally within a social context. The degree programme qualifies you for roles at the interface between practice and academia in various professional fields, including outdoor sports and sports tourism, individual and team sports, as well as dance, movement theatre and gymnastics. This opens up a wide range of potential career prospects for you.

Once you have graduated, a wide range of career paths will be open to you: you could work in clubs, associations, educational or healthcare institutions, as well as in the leisure and tourism sectors and in event and project management. A Master’s degree or a career in research is also an option.

Regardless of which of the three career fields you choose, once you have completed your degree you will be leading groups, participants or guests and teaching sport, exercise and physical activity. During the course, you will therefore develop three key competencies:

  1. Teaching skills: You will teach sport and exercise in a way that is tailored to your target audience, creative and motivating – from the initial idea through to practical implementation.
  2. Organisational skills: You will plan and lead events, assess safety and risk factors, and undertake administrative and evaluative tasks.
  3. Interpersonal skills: You will present yourself openly, lead groups with confidence and create a supportive, inclusive environment for learning and physical activity.
