The University Administration supports the members and staff of the German Sport University Cologne in carrying out their duties in the areas of research, teaching, degree programmes and continuing professional development. As a support service, it is therefore a cornerstone of the German Sport University Cologne.

The administration is divided into four departments and three staff units. In addition, the Rector’s Staff Unit provides direct support for the work of the Rectorate.

The Chancellor heads the university administration and is the line manager of the university’s non-academic staff; at the same time, the Chancellor is a member of the Rectorate and the Budget Officer.

Student and Examination Matters

Department 1 is the central service unit for study-related matters and supports students from the application stage right through to graduation.

Human Resources and Legal Affairs

Department 2 is responsible for human resources and legal affairs. It oversees HR processes, provides advice on legal matters and ensures compliance with the legal and organisational framework of our university.

Finance

Department 3 is responsible for the University’s financial and budgetary affairs. It is responsible for budget planning, financial accounting, the management of third-party funding, as well as procurement and accounts.

Construction matters and building management

Department 4 is responsible for construction and facilities management at our university. It oversees buildings and sports facilities, technical operations, space management, security, and caretaker and cleaning services.

Staff Units within the Central Administration

Outpatient Clinic for Sports Traumatology and Health Advice

The health centre is the main point of contact for medical care and health advice at our university.

Occupational Health Doctor / Health and Safety Officer

The administrative unit is responsible for health, safety and environmental protection, and provides advice on occupational safety and occupational health services.

University Communications and Continuing Education

The corporate communications department coordinates press and public relations work, marketing activities and the organisation of events.

About the support units and departments

Rector’s Office

The Academic Planning and Management Unit (StAPS) comprises five divisions which support the Rectorate in its operational and decision-making processes across the University’s key areas of responsibility, implement the Rectorate projects and act as points of contact for the respective subject areas. The head of these five departments is the Rector of the German Sport University Cologne, Prof. Ansgar Thiel.

The Academic Services Department is primarily responsible for supporting the Rector’s Office and the Senate of the German Sport University Cologne, and provides administrative support for the Rector’s work.

The International Office supports international students and exchange programmes, and provides advice on semesters abroad and work placements, as well as on organising your studies in an international context.

The Department of Studies and Teaching acts as the central point of contact and a hub for communication and information for, and between, teaching staff, students and all administrative staff in central administration and the academic sector.

The Research and Transfer Department is the central point of contact for enquiries regarding research and transfer funding, academic career development following a PhD, start-up issues, and targeted engagement with industry and society.

Information security and digital transformation are key areas of focus in the work of the Rector’s Office and are handled by Department 5 of the Executive Office.
