Definition

Actovegin®, a prescription-only medication, is a deproteinized hemodialysate derived from calf blood.

Effect

The following pharmacodynamic properties are described in the scientific literature on the product:

  • promotes tissue regeneration
  • stimulating activity in oxygen utilization
  • stimulating effect on glucose transport and glucose utilization 
     

Significance as a doping agent

According to the anti-doping regulations of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the use of Actovegin® is not prohibited!

Extensive studies of the preparation conducted to date at the Center for Preventive Doping Research at the German Sport University Cologne have not identified any pharmacologically active substances in the medication.
