Jean Monnet Chairs aim to promote a better understanding of the European Union. One of the main goals of the Jean Monnet Chair in Political Science and Sport at the German Sport University Cologne is to provide students at the university with knowledge derived from the institute’s activities and projects. The Jean Monnet Chair, which is dedicated in particular to the intersection of sports and politics, develops materials on the topic of sports in the European Union and explains the role of sports in transnational relations. In addition, the institute aims to improve the flow of Europe-related information among students, in academic research, and among the general public.
External speakers from Germany and abroad, as well as experts from the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS), give lectures on topics such as politics and sports, sports in specific national or continental contexts, and challenges associated with major sporting events. Here is a selection of Jean Monnet lectures from previous years.
