Additional specialisation in the Bachelor’s degree programme

Aims of the module:
The aim of this module is to impart and enable students to acquire a basic understanding of the structures and key players in sports policy. Particular attention is paid to the international context of sport and the role of sport in development cooperation.

Module content:
The thematic area ‘Fundamentals of Sports Policy’ will examine the definition and scope of sports policy, methods of sports policy research, stakeholders and institutions, as well as theoretical approaches and governance concepts in sports policy.

The second thematic block, ‘Sport and Development’, covers national and international actors in development cooperation; sport and peace; trauma and reconciliation work through sport; theoretical concepts regarding the role of sport in development cooperation; and evaluation and monitoring in development projects.

The third thematic block is devoted to “International Sport Policy”. Here, current issues in international sport policy are examined, along with major sporting events, sport in specific national or continental contexts, and international (umbrella) federations.  

The module serves both to provide professional qualifications and specialisation.  

Participation/entry requirements:
Five successfully completed modules from the foundation programme and key skills modules.

The module comprises a workload of 180 hours and 6 ECTS credits.
