Yes, starting in the third week of the semester, you will need a climbing harness, a belay device with carabiners, and climbing shoes; the DSHS will provide this equipment during the first two weeks. The instructors will discuss with you during the first session what you need to consider when purchasing the equipment. If you already own your own climbing gear or are able to borrow it, please bring the equipment with you to the first session.

The course is held as a weekly in-person session. Please check the LSF at the start of the first registration period for all information regarding the course time and location.

The venue is usually the Chimpanzodrome climbing gym in Frechen. Please keep this in mind when planning your semester! Please also note that attendance is mandatory and that the 4 semester hours (SWS) must be completed as 3 full hours.

The course is offered in both the winter and summer semesters.

No, there are no additional costs associated with this event (such as admission fees, excursion costs, etc.). Please note that you will need to bring your own equipment for this event. For more information, see the question: Do I need to bring my own equipment?

No, obtaining a license is not part of this course. If you are interested in obtaining a license in sport climbing, please refer to the following advanced courses: PE Rock Climbing, SBV9/SUL7 Sport Climbing, SUL1 Sport Climbing.

Successful completion of the course requires both a written exam (multiple-choice format) and a practical exam. The practical exam is typically administered during the last week of the semester as part of the course. It assesses lead climbing and belaying skills at UIAA difficulty levels III through VII. You will receive more detailed information about the exam from your instructors during the course.
