Education at the German Sport University Cologne. No prior experience is required.

No, there are no prerequisites for enrolling in the course.

In addition, the program-specific requirements of the German Sport University Cologne apply. See Requirements

During the course, participants will learn the basic skills of top-rope sport climbing and
bouldering. Climbing will take place exclusively on artificial climbing walls (currently: Chimpanzodrome
Frechen climbing gym).

Yes, you will need your own equipment starting in the third week of the semester:
a climbing harness, a belay device with carabiners, and climbing shoes; the DSHS will provide the equipment for
the first two weeks. Your instructors will discuss with you during
the first session what you need to keep in mind when purchasing the equipment. If you already own
your own climbing gear or are able to borrow it, please bring it with you to the
first session.

The course will be held as a biweekly in-person session. Please check the LSF at the start of the first
registration phase for all information regarding
the course time and location. The course is typically held at the Chimpanzodrome
climbing gym in Frechen (https://chimpanzodrome.de/). Please keep this in mind when
planning your semester! Please also note that attendance is mandatory and
that the 4 semester hours (SWS) must be completed as 3 full hours.
The course is offered only in the summer semester.

No, there are no additional costs associated with this event (such as admission fees,
excursion costs, etc.). Please note that some of this event requires you to bring your own
sports equipment. For more information, see the next question: Do I need to
bring my own equipment?

No, obtaining a license is not part of this course. However, the course qualifies
you to lead climbing activities at school in accordance with the “Safety Promotion in School Sports” directive issued by the Ministry of Education and
Schools of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
If you are interested in
obtaining a license for sport climbing outside the context of school sports, please refer to the following advanced courses: PE Rock
Climbing, SBV9/SUL7 Sport Climbing, SUL1 Sport Climbing

Successful completion of the course requires both a written exam (with open-ended questions / “essay-style
exam”) and a practical exam. The practical exam is typically taken during the
final weeks of the semester as part of the course and involves top-rope climbing at UIAA
difficulty levels III through VII. You will receive more detailed information about the exam from your
instructors during the course.
