Academic Programs & Teaching
In our courses, we impart pedagogical and didactic knowledge to enable students to justify their own positions with sound reasoning, apply the knowledge they have acquired in practice, and reflect on it critically.
A key priority is to closely integrate research and teaching, as well as theory and practice. To this end, various topics in sports pedagogy and sports didactics are addressed in a practical, application-oriented manner within the framework of our courses. Particular attention is given to educational, instructional, and teaching processes in school sports. Another key focus firmly anchored in the curriculum is sports promotion instruction, for which physical education teachers can earn an additional qualification at the German Sport University in cooperation with the Cologne District Government. In this context, we participate in the discourse on sports promotion instruction within the framework of inclusive school development and with reference to psychomotor skills.
Department Library
The Institute for Sports Pedagogy and School Sports has a library room containing books on the institute’s areas of interest that have been borrowed on a long-term basis from the Central Library (ZB Sport). If, while conducting a literature search in the ZB’s general catalog, you come across an entry labeled “Reference Collection / (27) Inst. for School Sports and School Development /..." appears, the corresponding work is located here and can be borrowed through us. Borrowing is available only to students and faculty. The loan period is one week, and a €10 deposit must be paid per book. Journals are excluded from the loan program.
