The Institute for Sports Pedagogy and School Sports is dedicated to teaching and researching a wide range of topics related to school sports. This encompasses both physical education classes and extracurricular activities within the active full-day program, such as sports trips, sports clubs, active learning, and support programs. However, only physical education itself reaches all children, thereby presenting both unique opportunities and challenges. Here, educational and formative processes can be initiated that extend far beyond the learning and mastery of individual sports, contributing both to personal development in social responsibility and to the promotion of a self-determined, physically active lifestyle. To enable all children, with their diverse backgrounds, to participate on an equal footing, we need qualified physical education teachers who work with didactic and methodological concepts that are effective for learning and sensitive to diversity. We address these issues both in our teaching and in a variety of research projects.
