Project Description
Asia’s dynamic development has led to a steadily growing interest in the region on the part of the media and the academic community. Although sports in Asia have not been the focus of Western attention thus far, examining the development of sports in Asia—particularly in China—promises to yield important insights. Within this framework, the Institute for European Sports Development and Leisure Studies has set itself the goal of expanding sports-related activities focused on China at the German Sport University Cologne and of examining transnational cooperation in sports-related research areas in greater detail.
Current research priorities include the areas of sports development, sports policy, health-related sports, recreational sports, tourism, and sports-related urban development in urban environments.
