Affiliated Institutes
In addition to the 19 research institutes and five transfer centres, there are four affiliated institutes at the German Sport University Cologne.
In accordance with Section 29 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia, the ‘An’ Institutes are academic bodies of the University and may be established with the approval of the faculties, the Senate and the Rector. They are organisationally and legally independent bodies governed by private law and are fully self-financing. The role of the ‘An’ Institutes is to expand the university’s provision in areas where it lacks the necessary resources. This is set out in writing in a cooperation agreement.
Research Institute for Inclusion through Exercise and Sport
At the request of the late founder of the Gold-Kraemer Foundation, Paul Kraemer, a research centre was established in the former Kraemer family home at Paul-R.-Kraemer-Allee 100 in Frechen-Buschbell. The centre addresses pressing issues relating to disability, sport, inclusion and the participation of people with disabilities. Founded in 2008, the Research Institute for Inclusion through Movement and Sport (FiBS gGmbH) has been an affiliated institute of the German Sport University Cologne since 2010. Its shareholders are the Gold-Kraemer Foundation, the German Sport University Cologne and the Landesverband Lebenshilfe NRW.
Institute for Workplace Health Promotion
The German Sport University Cologne and the Institute for Workplace Health Promotion (BGF) of AOK Rhineland/Hamburg have formed an exceptional partnership in the fields of workplace health promotion and exercise-based prevention: As an affiliated institute of the German Sport University Cologne, the Institute for Workplace Health Promotion (BGF) GmbH has been developing science-based prevention programmes since 1 March 2012. Its affiliation with one of Europe’s most renowned universities for sports science bridges the gap between scientific expertise and workplace practice, setting new standards of quality.
Institute for Quality Assurance in Prevention and Rehabilitation
The iqpr was founded in 2001 by the German Sport University Cologne, the Vocational Rehabilitation Centres in Cologne and Hamburg, and the Social Association Vdk Deutschland. The interdisciplinary team of researchers is committed to enabling and improving the long-term participation of people with and without disabilities in society and working life. Since 2023, the iqpr has also been supporting funding bodies, service providers and foundations through targeted communication and public relations initiatives as part of research and pilot projects.
Manfred Donike Institute for Doping Analysis e.V.
In order to continue the life’s work of Prof. Dr Manfred Donike, a pioneer in the field of doping analysis who died on 21 August 1995, the association “Manfred Donike Gesellschaft e.V.” was founded on 19 December 1995. In 2006, the name was changed to ‘Manfred Donike Institute for Doping Analysis e.V.’. The German Sport University Cologne and the association coordinate their activities in order to optimally advance research and the development of methods in the fight against doping. Since 2006, the association has been an affiliated institute of the German Sport University Cologne, focusing on carrying out doping analyses and preventing doping abuse.
