Germany is knocked out in the round of 32 at the World Cup and finishes fifth at the Winter Olympics. However, sporting success depends not only on the performances of the athletes, but also on sports policy. It influences both elite sport and grassroots sport. How is sports policy organised, what are its objectives, and what is the relationship between sport and politics? We discuss this in the ‘Zwischenruf’ podcast with Aydan Özoğuz (SPD), Chair of the Committee on Sport and Volunteering, and Prof. Dr Jürgen Mittag from the German Sport University Cologne.
‘Zwischenruf’ is the political science podcast produced by the Institute for Parliamentary Research (IParl). We bring together perspectives from politics, academia and journalism – with a practical focus and without an ivory-tower approach.
