The Project

As part of the BMBF “klimazwei” project GIS-KliSchee (Geographic Information System for Climate Variability and Snow Availability in German Low Mountain Ranges), regionalized climate data as well as natural and socioeconomic conditions in the field of winter sports tourism are being analyzed. The results are incorporated into a decision-support system that is freely accessible online. The information from the surveys conducted as part of this “klimazwei” project and the resulting recommendations for adaptation and mitigation measures provide an important basis for planning for operators. The spatially-based decision-support system SDSS GIS-KliSchee provides operators and decision-makers—for the first time and with a previously unattainable geographic coverage and spatial resolution—with concrete, location-specific data on the results of current climate modeling (state of the art). The analyses and comparisons available in SDSS GIS-KliSchee are a crucial and decisive component in decision-making regarding the further development of operations in winter sports areas.
