Research

The institute has the exclusive research mandate to analyze the complex interdependencies between sports practice and the spaces used for sports. The institute approaches this task based on the conviction that only an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach can do justice to the complex system of outdoor sports, the environment, and tourism.

Through the academic backgrounds of its staff, the institute strives to incorporate diverse skills and expertise from various disciplines—such as sports science, biology, tourism studies, forestry, sociology, and geography—into its research.

In real-world laboratories such as the Stubai Valley, the DSV National Training Center in Notschrei, and the SIS-ticket2nature camps, new forms of cooperation between science, practice, and society are being tested.

In addition, the Institute works with a wide range of external partners (scientific institutions, private-sector organizations, associations, etc.) on complex and pioneering projects and future-oriented issues, thereby fulfilling its social responsibility.
