Welcome to the Institute of Biomechanics and Orthopedics!
The goal of the Institute for Biomechanics and Orthopedics (IBO) is to contribute to basic and applied research related to the health and performance of the human neuromusculoskeletal system.
The institute is divided into three departments that work closely together in research and teaching. The research approach is integrative and interdisciplinary, encompassing—in the spirit of modern biomechanics of the human body—the entire range of mechanisms of the musculoskeletal system and the control of movement and load, from a macroscopic perspective down to the microscopic level.
The scope of application spans the entire lifespan—from young to older adults, from individuals involved in competitive and recreational sports to inactive individuals, and from healthy people to those with injuries or disabilities.
We oversee the master’s program in Human Technology in Sports and Medicine. The latest scientific findings and methods shape our research-based teaching and give students access to topics at the intersection of sports, medicine, and technology. At the same time, the program and the institute benefit from our alumni and partners in industry and research.
